Matt Selfe, mobile marine mechanic

I'm Matt Selfe. I run Matt's Marine Services, a mobile marine mechanic business based in Swan View, Western Australia. I service and repair outboard and inboard motors for boat owners across Perth, the Peel region and north to Jurien Bay, at their home, at the ramp or wherever the boat is stored.

Why I work mobile

Working mobile means the boat does not leave the water or the driveway. There is no trailering it across town, no waiting in a workshop queue, and no one else's job pushing yours back. The boat gets looked at where it sits, which saves the owner time and a trip.

How I approach a job

I diagnose properly first, with a plug-in scan where the engine allows it, so the fault is found rather than guessed at. I quote before starting, over the phone at no cost, and give an approximate cost before any work begins. If anything changes once the job is open, I call before going ahead.

What I will not cut corners on

Diagnosing before replacing parts, quoting before starting work, and calling before anything changes. The boat goes back in the water running right, not just running for now.

Where I work

Based in Swan View, I cover three tiers: the Perth core including the eastern suburbs, Midland, Guildford, the Swan Valley, Fremantle, Hillarys, Ocean Reef, Mindarie, Joondalup, Rockingham, Kwinana and Baldivis; the Peel region including Mandurah, Halls Head, Falcon, Dawesville, Pinjarra, Waroona; and the north coast up to Jurien Bay including Two Rocks, Yanchep, Guilderton, Seabird, Ledge Point, Lancelin, Cervantes, Jurien Bay. Coverage is continuous from Waroona in the south to Jurien Bay in the north.
